Make Me Iconic – putting the fun into Australiana

Australians all, let us rejoice, for Make Me Iconic have a whole new bunch of cool Australian themed wares to covet.

Is there anything more iconic – from a kid’s point of view and for nostalgic grown-ups too – than fairy bread. Let every day be a party at bedtime with Make Me Iconic’s treat pillowcases. They cost $50 for a set of two crisp cotton pillowcases.

I only live a stone’s throw from the suburb that gave us the Dame who introduced ‘hello possum’ to the Aussie vernacular. Of course, you don’t have to live within cooee of Moonee Ponds – or be a Dame Edna fame, for that matter – to enjoy these cushions at your place. The mini Hello Possum cushion costs $40 and comes with the cushion insert. Dame Edna would approve.

Now this may well be my favourite piece. I have it pegged for the wall in one of my boys’ rooms should we ever finish with that great Australian pastime, the reno. Manoeuvre celebrates that quintessential Melbourne thing that strikes fear into the hearts of many a visitor and local alike – the hook turn. A limited edition (kinda like the people that actually understand this parochially bizarre road rule), it costs $85 unframed.

You know that scene from Crocodile Dundee where Paul Hogan pulls out a knife and says “that’s not a knife, this is a knife!”? Well, that’s the same feeling I get when I look at the brilliant Biscuit Cup and Saucer. None of those flimsy, petite tea cups for us Aussies thanks, this one’s designed with a little resting place to cradle that perfect Australian biscuit, the Tim Tam. Though, it has to be said, the cup is big enough to see you through an entire packet of Tim Tams. Which is certainly okay by some people in my house. Usually $30, it is on sale for a limited time at Make Me Iconic for $15.

And just in time to celebrate Australia Day, I’d like you all to say a cheery g’day to Make Me Iconic’s latest offering, Cool Koala. Cool by name and by nature, this is one soft toy that deserves its place in your child’s crib. Expect to pay $60 to nab your own way-cool tutu wearing marsupial.
