Little boy bravely HUGS his way through vaccinations, thanks to brilliant nurse

Little boy getting immunised

An amazing nurse had a funny and masterful way of helping a reluctant little boy through his immunisations, keeping him distracted and as cheerful as possible, as he had not one but THREE needles and a finger prick blood test too. Gulp.

Sure shot

The interaction, captured by the little guys’ grandmother, is four minutes of edge-of-your-seat genius nursing. In a story arc that rivals Grey’s Anatomy, Tiffany Shelby Marshall shares a tale of worry, fear, persistence, good humour and triumph over adversity as her grandchild, Mitri, faces the challenge of getting his shots – and comes out the other end a stronger little guy.

The nurse in question, who is apparently named Myranda, keeps up a steady stream of conversation as she takes blood, administers vaccinations and asks some engaging questions about Mitri’s life and what he got for Christmas. The resulting footage is a brilliant example of patient care done right.

“This was by far the funniest thing I’ve ever seen with this kid  almost peed myself,” grandma Tiffany posted. “THIS NURSE WAS ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL!”

“Such a character”

Facebook followers agreed, quickly sending the clip viral and voicing their admiration for nurse Myranda’s kind and speedy approach.

“Love it. Congrats to her. You can tell she loves kids. Awesome job well done,” one Facebook user wrote.

“Awwwwww. Mitri is such a character,” another posted.

“That’s Myranda! Excellent job! He was hilarious,” someone else commented.

The clip has racked up over 20 million views in just a few days.

“Absolutely phenomenal”

Phenomenal indeed, it’s a hero’s journey made possible by a firm, funny and fair nurse who’s obviously been around the block a few times when it comes to giving fretful kids their scheduled shots.

Parents of small children will not only identify strongly with the anxious energy this consulting room is charged with, they will breathe a sigh of relief as this nurse encourages her young patient to paint and cuddle his way through what might otherwise be an upsetting experience.

This brilliant nurse’s ninja moves were so stealth, the little boy has to ask “did you give me the shot” a number of times, and while he’s not super keen to have the final shot, he eventually submits and manages it without freaking out or tearing up. Bravo!

This clip is a reminder of just how brave kids need to be when navigating challenging experiences. It’s also an ace example of how finding an excellent healthcare professional can transform what might be a tricky time into something unexpectedly positive (if a little prickly!)
