The first time The Lion King toured Australia my children were too young to see it. But that didn’t stop me sitting through the entire performance thinking “Wow! They’d love this!”. My kids won’t be missing out on the spectacle this time round.
The Lion King has just returned to Australia, with performances thrilling Sydney audiences.
Since The Lion King premiered on Broadway in 1997, more than sixty-three million people around the world have seen this spectacular Disney theatrical production. The Lion King is the seventh longest-running musical in Broadway history and one of only six productions in theatre history to play for ten years or more both on Broadway and in the West End. It’s also scooped bags of awards, has been translated into seven different languages and features music by world famous artists.
But for me, The Lion King is all about the costumes. It’s difficult to put into words how costumes and choreography can turn people so convincingly into leaping gazelle, proud lions and loping giraffe – mesmerising, beautiful and so memorable, there’s no question that children and adults will be absolutely love The Lion King.
The Lion King is on at Sydney’s Capitol Theatre. Tickets are available through the Capitol Theatre or online at Ticketmaster. Tickets are currently available for performances during February – May, 2014. Prices begin at $50 per ticket and there are a number of family-friendly matinees and early evening performances available.
