We went on a family holiday recently and while the kids would say smashing their way through Cold Rock ice cream was one of their highlights, mine was a pair of kids’ jeans. Awesome right?

Completely awesome indeed because my youngest is built like a beanpole. At five years old, a hundred-and-fifteen centimetres tall and weighing just seventeen kilograms, shopping for jeans is a challenge. When telling a children’s boutique owner my tale of woe – having just returned two pairs of jeans that positively swathed Master Five’s non existent hips and derrière with so much fabric I could have fashioned a toga – she recommended I give Kiniki’s Ferret jean a try for my slim-Jim.

My boy emerged from the change room with a strut. These jeans fit like a glove, even a size larger (ensuring an extra season of wear) fit the hips snug and bottom beautifully, with no bunching of fabric, a waistband that sit flat and no jocks billowing out when bending over – I had hit the holy grail of small person jeans. Like a woman possessed I couldn’t email friends fast enough to spread the news of Kiniki.

Having only just launched in March this year, former AFL champion Shane Crawford is co-founder of Kiniki which I’m sure might hold lots of weight with football loving familes –  we’re not, but I still love these unisex jeans. The Kiniki style is a bit edgy, less run-of-the-mill than your usual kids jeans contenders with a magnificent cut and attention to detail through embroidery and hardware details.

The denim is thick with great stretch while remaining buttery soft. I’m confident these jeans will withstand copious amounts of comfortable playground activity as well as constant laundering. The Kiniki line doesn’t stop with jeans either – we picked up an awesome beanie and I look forward to investigating their knits, jackets, jumpers and long johns further.

Jeans are priced at $89.99. The whole range is available at Kiniki with delivery available all over Australia or you can check for a local stockist.
