Kindle FreeTime – making tablets kid-friendly

My Kindle is my very favourite gadget (yes, over and above my iPhone!). I ordered my Kindle the very first day they were available to Australian customers and have used it pretty much every day since. Some people will say that Kindles aren’t necessary if you have an iPad – avid readers will tell you otherwise. Like all gadgets, the Kindle is continually being updated and improved and the latest models and features are exceptionally appealing.

Amazon, with the introduction of their newest tablet, the Kindle Fire HD, have also introduced a fantastic parent-friendly and kid-conscious feature called Kindle FreeTime.

Kindle FreeTime is a special mode that allows easy navigation for children as well as allowing parents to set limits on what children can access and for how long. Separate profiles can be set up for each child and filters set for various media types. For example, you may allow a child twenty minutes playing with apps or watching videos and two hours reading books (not that I’d ever limit how long my kids read books!). After that time, they are locked out of the device.

Before local Kindle owners think they’ve missed an important newsflash from Amazon, know that the new range of Kindles with the Kindle FreeTime feature aren’t available to Australian customers (yet!).
