inspiring new labels were showing their wares and well-established
designers proved their places as mainstayers in the market with new
ranges for the coming seasons. It’s so amazing to see all in
one place just how far the world of children’s apparel has come in
recent years. The scope and imagination to me far exceeds that
of adult apparel. Not only are the garments utterly gorgeous,
hard-wearing and fashion-forward, they’re attainable, with reasonable
pricing structures and availablity both online and in bricks and mortar
stores. Here’s a bit of a roundup of our faves.
pieces featured super-soft cotton in candy-bright colours
with super-hip designs such as dragon prints and a watercolour artwork
placed to beautiful effect on the front of a onesie. We’ll be
keeping a close eyeout for this label. The site is still under
construction but you can view the catalogue.
Rock Your Baby
stand with its gorgeous gingham dresses, printed tees,
and baby Fedora and knitted hats. Expanding on the ‘tie shirt’ idea (a
shirt with a print of a tie on it), RYB have done a fab black tee with
leather jacket print. I’m going to have to have a pair of their jeans
with the ultra-cool upturned leg. Parents of little girls
will want the sweet polka-dotted Mary Jane leather shoes and
cupcake bomber jacket. Loved the RYB direction for
’09/10! There was so much more there than what I’ve had time to
describe so you’ll just have to see the collection for yourselves. Stock is just hitting stores now.
cements itself yet again in the parental fashion psyche
with a strong Autumn/Winter ’09 range that’s instore right now. My
personal fave was the red Kimono Hoodie in the new Baobab
print ‘Racer’. Baobab knows it’s onto a winner with this print and have
gone to town with comfy pants, hoodies and bodysuits
available in a beautifully clean ice blue, chocolate and red
make fabulously bold children’s clothing, from star-quilted
tracksuits for boys to leaf-adorned long dresses for girls. The
fabrics are soft in the chicest of bright colours and the adorable
rompers are absolute must-haves for babies and young toddlers. My fave
was the two-tone purple velour tracksuit which I ordered for my
youngest son. Contact TiffToff for stockists.
were a delight to see with standout reversible clothing in an edgy but
still pretty Melbourne style. The Summer ’09/10 collection has just
been uploaded to the site for you to peruse! We loved the
side-buttoned shirt for girls and the pin-tucked shirt for boys was to
die for. The printed fabric is designed in-house and is utterly unique.
Red Chalk, which we featured back in
July last year
showed off its summer range for next year, featuring chic tees with
cool ‘Flea Circus’ print, and demure sketched rabbits on fab little
dresses, just ripe for layering through the cold months and doubling as
summer dresses when it is hot. The ’09 Winter range is now in store. That
sweet little orange dress would be high on my wishlist for a girl!
The clothing was a real standout at the 2009 Kids inStyle show. It’s a privilege to see the births of new brands and the evolution of others. We can hardly wait for the next one!
