Sightseeing in a foreign city with children is exciting and fun but can quickly turn sour when you have to tackle too many stairs with a pram, can’t find a public toilet or turn up to a museum only to find it closed.
Chronicle Books have put together a series of cards that focus on small sightseeing expeditions that can be done on foot (with minimal fuss for those pushing a pram). City Walks With Kids cover a variety of international destinations including London, Paris, New York and San Francisco. You’ll get to see the best of local sights and sounds without the hard work and there are fifty walks for each city – well and truly enough to keep adults and children busy on holiday.
Having personally done lots of sightseeing in New York, I can say that the city attractions included for the Big Apple strike a terrific balance between mainstream and ‘off the beaten track’ treasures. For example, spend time getting arty at the Children’s Museum of the Arts and then finish the day with dessert (yay!) at a number of notable Italian pastry shops and diners. There’s also the Discovery Garden at the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens, the New York City Fire Museum, Coney Island and of course the best of Central Park – lots to keep parents and children happy.
City Walks With Kids are available in Australia from The Nile for $22.50 per set.
