Keep it Glassy with the Kids Museum of Glass

Museums are always a fun outing to go on with kids. But we’ve never seen a museum quite like this. For budding architects, design enthusiasts and any child thirsty for knowledge of the fundamentals of glass, then the Kids Museum of Glass is the place to be.

The Kids Museum of Glass opened in January 2015 in Shanghai and is targeted at children ages 4 to 10. This is the first design museum in China and features a glass city, theatres, a drawing and creative DIY space, two cafes and even a party space for birthday parties.

The best thing about the Kids Museum of Glass is the eco-friendliness. Shanghai isn’t exactly known as the cleanest place to live but you can escape the smog  and enjoy a fun day in. The building was a former industrial workshop and uses green design elements and eco-friendly materials, including special air filters, to ensure a healthy space for all visitors.

We love the vibrant yellows and earthy greens as well as the industrial feel. The museum uses bright colours combined with gridded bridges and funky floor patterns to create a playful and welcoming open space. There is more than 20,000 square feet of fun to explore, including lessons in how a glass prism works, how lightning can create glass and much more.

If you are ever visiting Shanghai then this is definitely a great place to stop with the kids.  Check out the various shows playing at the theatre, grab a light snack at one of the cafes and let the kids get creative at their DIY section.
