When decorating a child’s room it’s hard not to go with standard pieces of furniture that will see them through to their teenage years. But if you’re after some instant wow factor, a bit of punch or a ‘where on earth did you find that?’, then best look no further than Kast van een Huis.
These enchanting pieces are designed and constructed in the Netherlands. The beautiful shapes of the canal houses are based on the traditional seventeenth and eighteenth century models dotted around Dutch cities today. I fell hard and fast for the canal closets – they took my mind straight to the classic Alice In Wonderland film I loved as a child. I’m envisioning a life for one (or three) as a clothing closet, then a bookcase, maybe even a rather elaborate doll house … the list goes on.
Beds are also available, with the canal houses used as a headboard in a day-bed style. They come in toddler size and a standard adult size, making the perfect partner to the canal closet. There’s a choice of a staggering ten standard colours for both the bed and closet or choose your own custom colour.
The Kast van een Huis furniture is unfortunately not available in Australia but you can still marvel at the gorgeous craftmanship over at Kast van een Huis‘ website.
