Introducing Mason Gray

The design team behind the DucDuc modern nursery line has turned back the clock and launched a traditional range of nursery furniture under the name Mason Gray. With silhouettes and lines reflecting period pieces, the furniture still maintains a current edge with sensational lacquer finishes and an enormous choice of colours – who knew a Regency style bed in acid orange and white would look so cool!

The collection includes cots, changing tables/dressers and single beds in four designs. Town meets country with the understated, simple Stonnington collection – I particularly like the fresh blue and white cot (below).

Brilliant colour combined with classic lines brings the Regency and Georgian periods into a modern nursery. The attention to detail is stunning; drawers stained inside and out, grooves in wooden panelling highlighted in a contrasting colour, and handles that are distinctive.

Finally there is the elegant Savannah collection. The more delicate design of the this range is not confined to pastel pinks and blues though; again, expect colours such as ‘Hot Lips’, ‘Downpour Blue’ and ‘Firefly’ to feature.

Each piece is made in Connecticut, USA and finished by hand. Prices range from US$1595 to $2100, although currently Mason Gray does not ship internationally.

Katrina Whelen

Katrina studied planning and design, did the hard yards working in a big office building and then traded it all in for a relaxing (!) life at home with four children. She now fills her time with writing, completing a degree in genetics and taxiing her children around Melbourne to their various sporting commitments (not necessarily in that order).
