The team at Britain’s Cool Green Attitude is hoping that this year everyone has a jolly green Christmas. That doesn’t mean a green Christmas tree and oodles of holly decorating your front door – it means organic, sustainable, recycled, eco-friendly and all those other earth-conscious words.
There is a lot about Christmas that is wasteful but some simple choices can make the experience a whole lot more ‘green’.
If you’re going hard-core festive green you’re not about to increase your carbon footprint by importing your Christmas gifts. That said, there’s a few terrific pieces at Cool Green Attitude to take a peek at. I particularly love the Toddels Sneeky teething toy for babies – my kids would have gone mad for it when they were teething. They also have a great range of recycled bags, including backpacks made of used juice boxes.
Closer to home, one of my favourite online eco-friendly stores is Queensland-based Biome. Biome features some beautifully designed and unique products and to get you in the spirit of things they have a special ‘Green Christmas’ section and dozens of gift ideas. The ceramic tree decorations by Australian designer Kylie Johnston are divine and a much better alternative to plastic baubles. For kids the rechargeable Tooli lights are superb (consider them for carols by candlelight), as are the cute penguin torches that run on kid-power! Fit out your pram with a Stuffit Pram Bag – the reusable shopping bag that has a strap sized to fit over the handle of your pram and check out the Knitwit bangles made of old knitting needles and the ex-circuit board earrings.
Cool Green Attitude ships internationally.
