Ian Somerhalder broke his post-baby technology ban for a very loved-up reason

Nikki Reed and Ian Somerhalder had taken a postpartum technology vow of silence, but Ian’s ban was relatably short-lived, his latest social media update a tribute to the mother of his child.

“My beautiful wife”

It seems that (a possibly exhausted) Nikki was dozing when the Vampire Diaries star posted the latest sneaky update, so overwhelmed by her baby-growing skills and beauty that he simply could not hold back.

The couple had previously explained that they’d be focusing solely on getting to know tiny Bodhi Soleil Reed Somerhalder (who was reportedly born on July 25th).

“We’ll take the baby’s first month for ourselves. After the baby arrives, we’re doing one month of silence. Just the three of us, no visitors, and we’re turning off our phones too, so there’s no expectation for us to communicate,” Nikki said in an interview with Fit Pregnancy Magazine, before their baby’s birth.

It seems that Ian maybe didn’t get the phone-ban memo – or is working with a social media manager – because he’s posted quite a few updates since Bodhi was born!

Whoops, I did it again

We’re not complaining about the “no phones” turnaround though, because Ian’s latest post is a heartfelt and touching tribute to wife Nikki and it’s clearly come straight from the man himself.

Ian was reflecting on the pregnancy shoot Nikki did before Bodhi’s birth.

Not only did he seek to reassure his wife that she’d brought “sexy into pregnancy”, he said the photos were kind and beautiful – and captured her sense of fun and power perfectly.

“Just a quick note to you my beautiful wife. You are briefly napping on the other side of the room after being an amazing mom all night so you’ll read this when you wake… seeing these images reminds me of those amazing 9 months that you sacrificed your whole being to grow our little one. The kindness, the beauty and organic nature of these photos makes me so very proud. You brought such fun and such power into our lives being pregnant but you literally brought the word sexy into pregnancy, we all see it. Thank you for being my partner in this life and thank you for inspiring not just me but all others who read, hear or see what your soul gives us.
Love, your husband”

The things we do for love

The couple’s Instagram followers are going a little bit nuts for Ian’s update, with multiple “I wish he was my husband” comments and a generous sprinkling of  “perfect couple” responses too.

Surprisingly very few people took Ian to task over repeatedly breaking the month-long ban on using phones and communicating with the outside world. They knew he did it all for love, we suppose. Perhaps they also knew that idealistic views of postpartum life often evaporate very, very quickly once a baby actually shows up!

Nikki also broke her self-imposed ban yesterday, posting a picture of her hubby on Instagram.

She fared much better with the whole no-tech thing, almost making it to the one month mark when she shared this eclipse-themed update:
