As soon as you step a (virtual) foot inside the Barbie Shanghai store, the excitement builds – you see, the page takes a moment to load and while you are in a virtual spinning elevator in a sea of hot pink, you begin to anticipate the Barbie delights that await. And then suddenly you’re there; the music starts and a new Barbie world awaits… I seriously felt like I was seven years old again.
Immerse yourself in all things pink and plastic at Mattel’s flagship Barbie store in Shanghai, China. Checking out over 1600 of the latest Barbie products in the shop is a very small part of the six-storey Shanghai Barbie experience. Sip a Barbie-tini in the Barbie Bar or snack on pink cupcakes in the Barbie café, then ride the pink neon-lit escalator to the Barbie Spa for a facial.
I’m sure the hottest parties for little girls are held in the studio, where you can design your own Barbie fashions, have them made up and then wear them in a catwalk show with lights and a DJ (a little modeling tuition is also part of the fun)!
Of course there’s also lots of Barbies on display. Apart from the centrepiece of the store – a three-storey spiral staircase enclosed by 875 Barbies – there’s also a ‘Barbies of the World’ display, a couture department and a Barbie career section where Barbie is dressed for more than one hundred jobs, from astronaut to president to pet handler.
