Foot-stomping, folky, fun tunes that kids will love – Hullabaloo’s latest album I Chew is packed full of toe-tapping tunes and it’s picked up a few kids music awards along the way.
We told you about their 2012 album Raise a Ruckus, but personally I think Hullabaloo have outdone themselves with this new offering. The talented duo from America have been friends since kindergarten and that solid friendship shines through in the upbeat dynamic of their songs.
This album has it all – light-hearted songs like title track I Chew, a country-style ditty about a panda and bamboo, and songs with a deeper resonance such as I Wear Pink which is all about letting kids be themselves.
There is also a track in there called Day 16 that points to an interesting backstory of the album. Last year, Hullabaloo vocalist Steve Denyes told his musical partner Brendan that he planned to write a new song every day for 21 days straight. And that’s exactly what he did. The result was a collection of what Steve calls “pocket songs” that reflect the in-the-moment nature of the challenge – and the album I Chew is a collection of the best of those songs.
