Shopping for my baby’s nursery recently, every place I looked gave me a sense of deja vu – was it just me or did everything look similar? That’s why I was stoked when I finally came across Zakkaya. It’s a Melbourne store specialising in homewares, kitchenware, fashion and kids items from Japan. And the good news is, they also have online shopping.
I love the posters ($70), from Japanese illustrator Shinzi Katoh – they’re not your typical children’s poster granted, but they’re fresh and clean, a decent size (560x900mm) and will last throughout their childhoods. And while I’m online with my trusty credit card, I just might be persuaded to purchase the too-cute wooden pull-along frogs ($25). They match the poster so perfectly, it would almost be a crime not to!
