Hip, hip, hooray! Playtime New York celebrates its 10th birthday

It’s a very happy birthday to one of our favourite trade shows – Playtime New York. In it’s 10th edition, this pulsing centre of all things new and exciting in the universe of children introduced us to some fabulous new brands. We also had the chance to see the forward collections from some of our favourites. We’ve taken a big ol’ bite out of the Big Apple, and we’re bringing some of the Playtime sweetness to you – come and take a look!

One of the main reasons buyers organise their calendars around trade show season is so they can get a first look at the new designers launching their collections. It gives them a heads up for the new seasons, so they can order stock and get ahead of the game.

Brand new children’s fashion label Marin + Morgan just launched its first collection at Playtime New York – and there was no better place given that’s where the brand hails from. It had to be one of the most anticipated viewings at the show – the co-founders and designers have backgrounds working with Scotch & Soda, Donna Karen and Armani Exchange.

Also among the 120 exhibitors was the elegant and unique children’s clothing from Agatha Cub. This brand is certainly not for the fashion faint-of-heart!

The new spring/summer (northern hemisphere) collection from Lulaland was a stand out. This sublime brand always manages to maintain an air of vintage, with each new drop.

Besides the treasure trove of fashion, there were also rows upon rows of beautiful toys for children, including these dolls from Dumyé. Not just visually arresting, for each one of these limited edition cloth dolls purchased, Dumyé gifts a doll to an orphaned child.

The beautiful embroidered collection of baby blankets from EllieFunDay were also a drawcard, both for their beauty and mission to help improve the lives of the women in India, who help hand-craft the organic creations.

It was very difficult to keep walking past the Walnut Animal Society exhibit – I mean, how adorable are these characters? We’re taking a bit of a breather as trade show season winds down, but we’ll back perusing the aisles again when the next editions get underway towards the middle of the year.
