US couple Holly and Brandon Shay have just welcomed twin boys to the world and, cleverly, they were born in different years!
See you next year!
Baby Sawyer arrived at 11:50 pm on 31st December aka New Year’s Eve 2016. His brother Everett arrived at 12.01 am – just 11 minutes later, but in a whole other year!
So while the pair may have shared the same cosy ride with the same mum for the same 9-ish months, their birth month and year are completely different.
Pretty snazzy move, boys!
The babies were born at Banner Thunderbird Medical Center in Glendale, Arizona.
Mum Holly was 37 weeks pregnant when she headed in to hospital at around 5.30 pm on New Year’s Eve, 2016. The boys were born, happy and healthy, several hours later.
“It was a perfect birth,” mum Holly told The Arizona Republic.
“Everett might disagree, but that’s because he’s just stubborn,” dad Brandon Shay laughed.
“He was hanging on until after midnight.”
Firstborn Sawyer weighed 5 pounds, 5 ounces, while his younger brother, Everett tipped the scales at 4 pounds, 8 ounces.
The boys are fraternal twins with Everett the lighter, yet longer of the two, dad Brandon says.
The twins’ parents foresee some healthy competition between the two.
“I think Sawyer might give his brother a hard time,” Holly said.
“I think it’s going to mostly be Sawyer teasing Everett over him being the eldest,” Brandon predicted.
Brandon and Holly are also parents to two girls, a 4-year-old and a 13-year-old, rounding out their family to a gang of six with the arrival of the twins.
Brandon says the boys arrival may signal a shift in the Shay household.
“It’s nice to have two boys … welcome testosterone in the family,” he quipped.
Same, same, but different
These clever twins are not the only birth-year-disrupting babies born over the last week.
A San Diego mum gave birth to twin girls – Scarlet and Virginia – a few minutes apart but in different years. Scarlet was born at 11.56 pm on the last day of 2016 and Virginia at 12 am on January 1, 2017.
Georgia twins Aubree and Asher also have different birth years. Aubree arrived at 11.20 pm on December 31, 2016. Asher took his time, making an appearance an hour later at 12.20 am on January 1, 2017.
Arlington twins J’aiden and Jordan split the difference over two years, too. J’aiden was born at 11.46 pm on New Year’s Eve 2016. Baby Jordan arrived at 12.12 am on January 1, 2017.
Excellent same-same-but-different birthing, babies!
Perhaps you know some similar, clever babies with differing birth years too?
