It’s nice to know that even celebrities have children who scream on planes. Gorgeous and funny mum of one, Chrissy Teigen, has given us a glimpse into what it’s really like when you travel with a baby.
On the road again
Travelling with kids is not for the fainthearted. There’s the change of routine, remembering what to pack, jet lag, extra stimulation, and the worst part – planes, trains and automobiles. It’s enough to make any parent never want to leave the house again, however for Chrissy Teigen and her Grammy award winning husband John Legend, they don’t have a choice.
“We never thought of not bringing her with us,” says Chrissy, in a recent interview with US magazine about taking their 16-month-old daughter Luna with them on John’s current Darkness and Light tour which kicked off in May and covers 53 dates.
“Oh my gosh, we’re always on the bus. Luna loves her car seat. She points at everything like, “Trees!” That leaves us to take a breather. It’s a lot of watching movies and bingeing Handmaid’s Tale.”
Keeping it real
Things aren’t always that easy though and the famous couple look for ways to help make things a little bit easier on all of them. One way they do that is by bringing a bit of predictability back to their day-to-day touring life by opting to stay in a AirBnB in each city rather than hotels so they can “cook and have a normal life”.
They also avoid planes wherever possible because according to the 31 year-old model, flying is the worst part about travelling with a baby.
“We try to avoid it. She just did a long flight from Bali and nailed it — on the way home. On the way there, I was going to have a panic attack,” explains Chrissy.
“They’re going to scream”
Making parents everywhere feel a bit a better about their nightmare plane journeys, she went on even further:
“Before I had kids, I was hyperaware of them crying. So I feel like I know when it’s too loud. I get up and apologize. But kids are going to be kids. They’re going to scream. I’m never going to be the parent pretending my kid is not doing that.”
A little jet-setter
When when it comes to packing, apparently little Luna is quite the luggage hoard.
“She overpacks! Basically if she has her ba-ba and her lovey that goes over her face when she sleeps, she’s set. She has her colors book, her animal faces book, her Sesame Street bath time book,” says Chrissy.
“John and I memorized all those songs, like ‘Rubber Ducky’. She will play the same one over and over. It’s always the Elmo one.”
Sounds like jet-setting Luna knows what she likes when it comes to travelling with her parents! Just don’t put her on a plane…
