In my house, we have a good mixture of wooden toys and non-wooden toys (mostly plastic concoctions) and if I have the option to buy one over the other, I’ll always choose the wooden creation. For the most part, they last longer, are made better, can be passed down to to younger children for years of enjoyment and let’s face it – they’re simply prettier.
German company Glückskäfer, which has been in the toy industry since 1945, designs and crafts what can only be called pure quality wooden toys. Among those toys is a wonderfully old-fashioned wooden kitchen, perfect for all children to flex their make-believe cooking skills. This combines everything you could ask for in a play kitchen: stunning woodwork, a beautiful finish and timeless appeal.
The kitchen comes in two variants, one with an oven and one without and just about any cooking accessory can be bought to compliment each set. I love the little wash basins and hooks for hanging everything up. My daughter (and all her friends) would love these kitchens. Glückskäfer make all their toys with a deep respect and concern for our natural resources and only use environmentally friendly materials and methods.
The smaller kitchen is available to purchase in Australia from Eco Child for $199 plus postage. Glückskäfer kitchen accessories (whisk, rolling pin, oven glove and ladle to name just a few) are also available from Eco Child, with prices from $7.95.
Keep an eye out for the June shipment of more fabulous Glückskäfer wooden toys at Eco Child.
