Our Creative Director, Ben, was trying to reign us in when this one crossed the desk. “It’s basically a sled,” he quipped. Well, perhaps that’s true. But it is a really, really fun Back to the Future sled. With sound effects. We’re on board!
Toy manufacturer Mattel is apparently set to release a replica of the hover board from the Back To The Future sequels in time for Christmas this year.
The release is dependent on pre-order sales but toy retailers were given a sneak preview at the recent New York Toy Fair.
In terms of the technical specifications (the bits that Ben zeroed in on!), Mattel states that the board will ‘glide’ over surfaces rather than hover. Specifically, “This totally awesome 1:1 replica of the hover board from the BTTF 2 and BTTF 3 films includes multiple whooshing sounds and will glide over most surfaces (does not actually ‘hover’ – check back in 2015 for that feature).”
Although the price for your very own Back to the Future hover board has not been set, Mattel has indicated that it is a “high-cost item“. So although Ben might be waiting for an actual floating hover board (and actual self-lacing shoes) we’ll keep you posted on the progress of this one!
