As if we needed another reason to love the gorgeous and talented Gal Gadot, the star of the new Wonder Woman film has revealed she was actually five months pregnant during filming. Say what?!
Yep, Gal is an actual superhero it seems – or at the very least one heck of a badass. Not only was she already a busy working mum of one when filming began, by the time it had finished up, Gal was well on her way to growing bub number two.
Kicking superhero butt AND growing a human? #preggygoals!
The magic of the movies
Most of the new Wonder Woman movie had been completed when director Patty Jenkins decided a scene needed reshooting. This left creators with a quandary – how to hide Gal’s growing tummy? Thinking outside the box, they cut a large hole in the front of Gal’s costume and covered her stomach with a bright green cloth – effectively turning her belly into a green screen. Clever!
“On close-up I looked very much like Wonder Woman,” Gal says. “On wide shots I looked very funny, like Wonder Woman pregnant with Kermit the Frog.”
The show must go on
Luckily, the scene didn’t require any strenuous action on Gal’s part but they did have to film in some pretty shoddy weather. Like any mum, in true get-it-done fashion, Gal didn’t let it stop her. Because let’s face it, a bit of rain can’t stop a mum when she’s got stuff to do, amiright?
“She’s pregnant during part of the movie, in a suit out in a field in the freezing cold in others,” director Patty Jenkins told Entertainment Weekly. “There are so many things we asked her to do: Now do it on one foot. Now shout while you’re doing it. Now it’s raining in the freezing cold and you’ve lost your voice, go. Every day it was a hilarious gauntlet and she would do it.”
See what I mean by badass? It just goes to show what us mums manage to push through during our pregnancies. Many of us work, care for our other children, keep the household running and more during our pregnancies. I mean, we grow humans, and life goes on – what other superpowers do we need?
Gal’s sweet daughter Maya was eventually born in March, with the happy mum sharing her excitement on Twitter:

Congrats to the happy family! May little Maya grow up to be a Wonder Woman in her own right, just like her mama.
