If you’ve got little people in your house, there’s a high chance you’re very familiar with ABC’s kids’ shows. Well, what if we told you that you could now get them any time, any place?
It’s true – ABC has just launched a free new app for kids that brings all their favourites to iPad.
Peppa Pig, Play School, Giggle and Hoot, Bananas in Pyjamas, Ready, Steady, Wiggle, Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom and the Octonauts are among the library of shows available on ABC KIDS iview.
What I really love about this is that it’s a dedicated app featuring only kids’ shows – so no chance of little eyes chancing upon something they’re not meant to see. And there are no ads. There’s a grown-ups section within the app, which lets parents decide which programs their kids can watch, as well as provide feedback about the app.
ABC says the image-led app is “designed for and tested by preschoolers” and features the best children’s shows from Australia and around the world, “in an environment parents and carers can control”.
Head of TV strategy and digital products Rebecca Heap says ABC iview is already popular among children and parents (26 per cent of kids aged two to five who are active online already use iview, according to a recent Nielsen survey). “What’s unique about ABC KIDS iview is it has been designed specifically with parents and preschoolers in mind and they have been part of the development process from the outset,” Ms Heap says.
ABC KIDS iview for iPad is available for download at the App Store, but the ABC is working on bringing it to android tablets.
Eagle-eyed readers may have also noticed it’s no longer ABC 4 KIDS – the broadcaster has dropped the 4 as part of a brand refresh. Look out for an updated logo, too.
