If I won the lottery tomorrow I’d take off on a holiday to Mexico. It’s my dream destination – I think I’ve been seduced by seeing so many photographs of fabulous beaches and luxurious resorts. Although luxury resorts are generally not the place for kids, Mexico’s Rosewood Mayakobá Resort welcomes them.
Situated along an arc of white Caribbean sand on the Riviera Maya, where the jungle meets the sea, the Rosewood Mayakobá has scooped numerous industry and luxury travel awards and it’s not hard to see why. The resort’s 128 suites are built along serene lagoons and feature rooftop sundecks, private terraces, plunge pools, docks and stunning views of the jungle and beach.
Rosewood Mayakobá offers a complimentary children’s program that reflects the local culture and the luxurious surrounds. Suitable for children aged three to twelve, the Rose Buds kid’s club has all sorts of activities on offer from piñata making and Mayan jewellery making to sea origami, nature walks and hiking the Mayakobá. And for kids that really need to unwind (!), there are special children’s treatments available at Sense, the Rosewood Spa. Slip on kiddie-sized robes and indulge in yoga, reflexology, hair styling and manicures.
When the kids are exhausted from their day of sandcastle building, beach art and rock pool rambles they can chill out in the Rose Bud TV and Games Room which runs child-friendly movies; the Soft Room – a quiet place for reading and napping; or the Arts, Crafts and Board Games zone.
So what will you do while the kids are having all that fun? Enjoy the beachfront, infinity-edge and spa pools, lie on the beach, play a round at the signature Greg Norman golf course that meanders along the coast or relax at the day spa. There are also snorkelling and diving excursions to the world’s second largest reef or in Mexico’s crystal-clear cenotes that spring from subterranean rivers, tequila tastings and day-trips to the nearby Mayan ruins in Tulum or the ecological haven of Xcaret – wow.
A Lagoon Suite, suitable for two adults and two children, begins at US$695 per night. The Lagoon Suite (shown below) has a private terrace, plunge pool, rooftop sundeck and an indoor/ outdoor bathroom including a garden shower – parents will appreciate having private outdoor space for kids to enjoy without feeling as if they are imposing on other guests. Packages are available. Rosewood Mayakobá also offers a nanny service and a huge range of baby necessities from full size cots through to change tables, baby monitors and bed rails.
Bookings can be made online direct with Rosewood Mayakobá. I’m off to buy that lottery ticket.
