Straight from the strange but true files, with more than a generous helping of creepiness, comes 3D Babies. A Californian company making true-to-size baby figurines, based on ultrasound images. And if you’re not keen on holding a replica of your own foetus, you can hold Kim Kardashian’s. Confused? Read on.
To tell you the truth, I’m not a big fan of 3D ultrasounds, so when I came across news that a company was actually making models from these ultrasounds, I was intrigued, and confused. But each to their own, so here’s a run-down of what 3D Babies offers.
The company creates an “adorable” (their word, not mine) baby figurine resembling your baby’s facial features and body position. 3D and 4D images are used to create a “unique artistic representation of your baby using the latest computer graphics and 3D printing technology”. A model can also be created using newborn images. And here’s where Kim Kardashian comes in. 3D Babies is looking into adding celebrity babies to their product line. There were reports little North West was to be the first cab off the rank, but she doesn’t seem to be available at the moment.
Regardless, if you’re keen to have your own unborn baby immortalised into figurine form, 3D Babies, which was a crowd funding project, offers custom life-sized babies for US$600, half-sized babies for US$400 and mini babies are US$200.
