Emily Blunt talks ‘exploding’ breasts and other truths about motherhood

It’s 3am. You’re completely exhausted. You haven’t showered since you came back from the hospital. Your breasts are leaking left, right and centre. And, as you lay awake with your teeny newborn in your arms, you probably feel completely alone.

You’re not. All parents go through these less-than-desirable feelings. And actress Emily Blunt just admitted she is one of them.

It’s always so refreshing to hear a celebrity’s trials and tribulations when it comes to parenthood. Because as incredible as celebrities look on the red carpet, behind the camera, they are just like us, dying for a shower.

In a recent interview with InStyle magazine, Emily gets, well, blunt, about life as a mum to two young daughters – two-year-old Hazel and five-month-old Violet.

“After we got home from the hospital, I didn’t shower for a week,” Emily admits when asked how she is adjusting to being a mum of two. Her eldest, Hazel, is still adjusting to having a little sister and Emily jokes, “There have been no physical attacks or suffocations.”

That’s certainly a plus. “She fluctuates between complete disinterest and moments of sheer passion.”

Emily and husband, John Krasinski, also explain the reasoning behind their daughters’ names – they loved the “antique” British vibe. “They sound like two little old ladies,” she explains. “They should be playing bridge or something.”

And although John is a very hands-on “and the most unbelievable daddy”, Emily tells InStyle that since adding Violet to the Krasinski clan, “no one gets a break.”

“It’s a zoo!”

On the rare occasion when Emily and John tried to escape the madness for a dinner date, they only made it an hour. Why?

“Because my boobs were exploding. When the milk first comes in, it’s like a tsunami. But we went, just to prove to ourselves that we could feel normal for a second.”
