Eames RAR Rocker – A historic design masterpiece

I must admit to having a long-term soft spot for this rocker, which has led to some serious lusting and many near-purchases in the past. The last time was about four months ago when I could hardly get my legs to walk away. But I made a promise that it would be a present to myself eventually.

The rocker chair I’m gushing about is the iconic Eames RAR (rocking armchair rod base for its official title) originally designed in 1948 and now produced by Herman Miller. The new version is made from environmentally friendly polypropylene as opposed to the original fibreglass and is combined with lacquered maple runners and a chrome steel base.

The Eames RAR rocker is the answer to every chic and contemporary minded mum out there. It can serve as a distinctive rocking chair for the nursery and when baby has grown out of being rocked, it can seamlessly blend in with your lounge room furniture. It’s to be loved and cherished for many, many years unlike traditional nursery gliders that quite often get sold or quickly shifted to a dark corner.

If it’s finally time to give in to your mid-century design leanings or to secure a famous piece of furniture design history, then head to Living Edge. It’s priced at $8oo. I think we’ll have to wait and see if it makes its way to my living room sooner rather than later.
