Distracted by kids in the back seat? The Honda CR-V Series II holds the key to safer driving

What are some of the most challenging things about driving with your kids? Their desire for you to turn around and help them the moment you hit the freeway? Their boot-load of stuff? Their request for a different song every two seconds?

Not only can it be challenging driving with kids, but it can also be unsafe. One study confirms that 35 per cent of parents admit to being distracted by their children in the back seat. But the Honda CR-V Series II has you covered. Buckle up and come and see what’s new with the family-approved CR-V.

Honda just upped the family vehicle game and wild horses couldn’t keep us away!

As one of Australia’s most trusted SUVs, the Honda CR-V Series II is no stranger to just how unpredictable family life can be. No matter where the road leads, it’s the SUV that’s made to ‘go with it’.

The Honda CR-V is equipped with some of the most-advanced safety technology on the market as part of their Advanced Driver Assist System. In some models, this includes the Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Lane Keep Assist System (LKAS).

The Lane Keep Assist System is especially convenient for parents and could minimise the risks associated with distracted driving. Whether you are trying to find the dummy to put back in bub’s mouth, attempting to settle an argument exploding in the back seat, or doing the quick backwards glance, it is easy to understand how distractions on the road can happen when you have little back seat drivers demanding attention.

The Lane Keep Assist System alerts you if you are swerving and ensures you remain in your lane, even when your mind is elsewhere.

Honda’s LaneWatch feature even utilises a hidden camera in the passenger side mirror to give you a live view of what’s going on in the lane to your left. You’ll be able to see it all in the Display Audio screen where it shows you four times more than a normal side mirror, plus ‘car length’ markers as well.

Their multi-angle reversing camera is another excellent safety feature, especially for someone like me who has an uncanny ability to hit poles in underground parking lots (where do these poles come from?). Stay in control when reversing out of the driveway or out of a tight parking space and never hit another pole again!

We also love their one-motion folding seats, plus exceptional boot space, which make it easy to pack up the car for camping trips or ensure a comfortable ride for school drop-offs. You can easily fit a whole household of luggage for an overseas trip, a family of five (plus the dog), and a month’s worth of groceries.

The re-imagined Display Audio touchscreen system is also a must for parents. Find directions or a song that will keep the kids entertained easily, and with less fiddling.

The Honda CR-V VTi, VTi-S and VTi-L models are now available in 2WD, each equipped with the very efficient 2.0L i-VTEC petrol engine and perfect for around town. They are also available in 4WD with the more powerful 2.4L i-VTEC petrol engine for more traction, more control and more opportunities to explore off road.

One thing that hasn’t changed is the 5-star ANCAP safety rating.  This is the highest safety rating for vehicles which measures the safety for occupants and pedestrians in the event of a crash as well as the car’s ability – through technology – to avoid a crash.

There are plenty of other new highlights to obsess over, like the striking new alloy wheels and energy-efficient LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs). The CR-V range comes in some seriously sleek colour choices too, including Metallic Modern Steel, Metallic Alabaster Silver and Pearlescent Carnelian Red.

Life moves fast. One minute, you’re picking up the kids after school. The next, you’re packing up for your big on-road adventure. In the CR-V Series II, you can easily do both. With a bold new look and brilliant safety features, the Honda CR-V Series II is ready for anything you (and your kids) can think of.
