Disney brings a new magical ice adventure to Australia this winter

There’s action, adventure and princesses – we’d expect nothing less from a Disney fairytale. But it’s when that story takes to the ice rink that an exciting tale turns into an epic one.

This year’s Disney On Ice is a brand new ice show weaving together four worlds of Disney royalty with Anna, Elsa, Ariel, Belle and Rapunzel on skates.

Disney On Ice presents Magical Ice Festival showcases moments from The Little Mermaid, Tangled, Beauty and the Beast and feature film sensation Frozen and combines them with comedy, music, colour and lights.

Producers Nicole Feld and Juliette Feld lead a creative team of experts across choreography, set, costume and lighting design to develop a truly unique way to lead audiences into each fairytale.

Juliette says Disney on Ice presents Magical Ice Festival puts a fresh new spin on how the Disney stories are presented and marks the first time the Academy Award-winning film Frozen has come to life on ice in Australia.

“The most exciting part of bringing characters like Anna and Elsa to the ice for the first time is knowing that they have a powerful and inspiring message that resonates with audiences as the sisters discover the true meaning of love,” adds Nicole.

In order to place the audience in the sea world of The Little Mermaid, the creative team use colourful coral and pieces of seaweed more than 10 metres high. Director Patty Vincent says, “We also have a scene in The Little Mermaid segment where there’s a storm, and we have fabric representing the waves that is 35 feet across the ice – our performers have never carried fabric that big!”

Costume designer Cynthia Nordstrom has ensured that the four major components of the show are each different in feeling, colour and character. Audiences will be able to see as well as sense the change as they move from story to story.

Disney On Ice presents Magical Ice Festival opens in Perth on June 2 and travels to Adelaide, Wollongong, Brisbane, Melbourne, Newcastle and Sydney, closing on July 17.

Wollongong tickets are available through Ticketmaster. Tickets for all other cities are available from Ticketek. Prices begin at $34.50. For more information visit Disney On Ice.
