This item well and truly falls into the category of ‘novelty kitchen appliance’ but that has not stopped more than 1700 people backing it on Kickstarter. Come and see why.
Weekend pancakes are a tradition in many families, but imagine if you could create intricate designs to serve up with your maple syrup? With the PancakeBot, you can do just that.
Miguel Valenzuela has invented what is essentially a pancake making robot. Launched on Kickstarter earlier this year, his idea has been a few years in the making, starting with building his daughters a LEGO pancake making machine!
Vaguely reminiscent of the old dot-matrix printers, the pancake bot essentially prints out your own design onto the included hot plate.
The PancakeBot includes Mac and PC compatible software that allows you to design your own pancake by tracing any image from your computer. This could be an artwork, a child’s drawing (imagine the excitement of them seeing their own artwork on their breakfast plate!) or indeed your own company logo, the software creates the file and the PancakeBot does the rest. The software allows you to control what lines are drawn first, which in turn lets you determine the shading of the pancake.
So popular has this idea been, that the PancakeBot has already far exceeded its $50k Kickstarter goal. For US$179 you can own a first release of the pancake bot, saving $120 off the retail price. The campaign finishes on April 10, 2015, so be quick. Shipping is from July 2015.
