Delicious cooking for kids with Yummyfun

Ingredients:

1 cup of crazy

2 teaspoons of kooky

2 cups of kid friendly recipes

A pinch of mad friends

1 litre of whacky music

Method:

Mix all the ingredients together until you have a big bowl of Yummyfun.

Yummyfun is the work of Clare Crespo, a cooking teacher obsessed with getting people inspired in the kitchen. In an age when there are celebrity chefs and cooking programs aplenty, Crespo’s offering is unique. Her style as she reveals the ‘secret life of food’ to her young audience is whacky, with groovy background music (by The Tastebuds) and a set so strange that it all seems a bit surreal.

Crespo whips up thongs made out of potato slices and beans, chocolate banana monkeys, cute little bugs made from lollies and lots more. The instructions are suitably pitched at children because really, the most mesmerizing thing is Crespo’s fairytale-like delivery – the fantasy element is that strong you feel you have fallen down a rabbit hole, visited the Magic Faraway Tree or are about to meet Willy Wonka.

Yummyfun DVDs are available for US$15 each and cookbooks including Hello There, Cupcake (US$16.95) and The Secret Life of Food (US$12.99) can be purchased directly from Yummyfun. All can be shipped to Australia.

She now fills her time with writing, completing a degree in genetics and taxiing her children around Melbourne to their various sporting commitments (not necessarily in that order).
