The recent earthquake in Haiti shocked the world in its devastation. Many of us have already given generously to charities of all kinds to support the victims, but perhaps you are looking for something more to do. The crafting community internationally has come together to create Craft Hope – an Etsy store where the proceeds of all sales are being donated to Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières).
Since its creation three weeks ago, Craft Hope has sold over 1500 items and raised more than $27,000 US for MSF. There are currently almost 200 items on sale in the shop and new items are being added regularly. A quick browse around will show you the huge variety available, with everything from accessories and art to something special for your pets.
More than a third of the items for sale are toys, clothing and knick-knacks for children. The prices are as varied as the stock – currently the cheapest items in the store are US$3 but if you’re feeling particularly generous (or you just love something so much you can’t leave it there, which often happens to me on Etsy!) you can easily spend more than US$300. In most cases the seller has included the shipping for free, which is a boon to us here in Australia where postage can exceed the cost of the item itself.
So take some time today to stop over at Craft Hope and pick up something beautiful for yourself, your home or your children while supporting those in need. If you’re a crafter and would like to donate to Craft Hope, you can find information on how to do so here.
