Editor’s note: The child has now been found.
Police hold concerns for a 10-year-old Queensland girl, who went missing while riding her bike yesterday. Police have appealed to the public to help find the girl, who was reported missing from Palmwoods last night. She left her home at around 11.30 yesterday morning, on her blue BMX bike, and hasn’t been seen since. She hasn’t made any contact with her family.
“It’s always very concerning when a young person, especially a young girl, goes missing,” Superintendent Darryl Johnson told ABC Radio.
“We’re putting everything we can into locating this girl as quickly as we can.
The child was last seen wearing a pink skirt and white shirt, and is described as 150cm tall, with brown hair and hazel eyes.
Anyone with any information is being urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
The young girl’s disappearance comes one day before the 12th anniversary of Daniel Morcombe’s abduction from a bus stop on the Sunshine Coast. In another terrible coincidence, the town of Palmwoods is only a short drive from Woombye, the place from where Daniel was taken. A man was found guilty of his murder last year.
In the wake of the 13-year-old’s abduction and murder, the Daniel Morcombe Foundation was created. It aims to educate children and the wider community about child safety.
