Play School’s 50th anniversary celebrations party on, and tomorrow we’ll see some very familiar faces, for grown-ups and kids alike.
All the mums and dads who grew up on Play School will recognise John Hamblin when he rolls out I’m a Little Teapot at 8am tomorrow (July 8). John hosted the show right through the ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s, beaten out for longevity only by Benita Collings.
If you host Play School for 29 years, things are bound to get a bit funny sometimes. There are loads of hilarious John Hamblin moments that move into grown-ups only territory, and there’s even a book about it.
The 5pm show is hosted by another familiar face, regular Play School host Rachael Coopes, who just happens to be the host of Babyology’s own most recent baby shower events. She’ll be joined by gold medal-winning Paralympics athlete and teacher Kurt Fearnley, reading the classic book, We’re Going on a Bear Hunt.
Kurt Fearnley’s life and sports career shows kids that determination can overcome any hardship. Kurt was born with a congenital disorder which meant that’s he’s spent his life in a wheelchair, but that hasn’t stopped him pursuing sports – by 17 he was an elite wheelchair racer and he’s won numerous medals in the Paralympic Games.
Rachael Coopes has had an impressive career herself, having acted in Australian television and film. In an incredibly honest interview with Babyology, she talked about being a working, single mum, and all the things she wished she’d known before she had her son.
