Combi Urban Walker – this pram was made for walkin’

Urban Walker aqua  Urban Walker magenta

I wasn’t in the market to buy a new pram when I came across the Urban Walker from Japanese company Combi. After all, I had only recently purchased a new pram (even though I wasn’t entirely happy with it). But after I saw a demonstration and picked up the stylish, light-as-a-feather Urban Walker in my hand, I was hooked. The Urban Walker came home with me and the other pram now resides under the stairs and serves as a back-up.

Combi has been making prams for 50 years in Japan, where they have the number one baby product, and are now available here in Australia through distributors Nihon Trading. There are three models available to the Aussie punter – the Ricco, the Well Comfort and, of course, the Urban Walker. All are suitable for babies aged newborn to 36 months or up to 20kg.

What is it I love about the Urban Walker? Firstly, I can’t deny that I don’t appreciate its vivid aesthetics – available in pink, orange and blue. But this is where it gets good. The pram has a full 95 per cent UV protection rating canopy with mesh window and full reclining seat. It’s also incredibly light (6.2kg) and has a one-touch opening and closing mechanism perfect for `unco’ people like me. Add to that a seat angle adjustment of 125 to 170 degrees, reversible handle, five-point harness, large basket and active suspension and did I mention it was self-standing when folded? All this for $498.99.
