In some lucky parts of the world it’s summer, and with summer comes Bubble London, an event showcasing all the best and most brilliant in kids’ fashion, toys and décor.
There are so many designers to discover – old pros with gorgeous new collections, newbies disrupting everything with crazy cool ideas and sustainable designs. Sustainability and environmental awareness seem to be the themes of the event and we’ve picked a few of our favourites.
Lil Lords and Ladies is a British brand that we’ll be watching closely. Debuting its collection as a five minute pitch to retailers through Bubble London’s Perfect Pitch program, this streetwear brand is big on pattern, colour and being gentle with the planet. The garments are made from organic fabrics, and made in the UK.
Often imitated, but never duplicated, Lego really is the master builder. British designer Torsten Sherwood’s Noook building system is inspired by Lego, but unlike traditional building blocks, Noook is fluid and uses two dimensional pieces to create three dimensional masterpieces.
The shapes are flat discs of heavy duty cardboard that can be folded in the centre and slotted into each other. The result is life-sized surfaces that can be anything kids can imagine: secret lairs, impossibly tall rockets, towering creatures. Noook is also one of eight presenting its ideas as part of Perfect Pitch, and it’s a finalist for the Rising Star awards.
Another Rising Star finalist is new baby line from Boody, makers of bamboo basics for men and women. Bamboo is a kind of super plant when it comes to environmental friendliness. It grows fast, it’s easy to harvest, yields on small pieces of land are high, and it uses very little water. Bamboo fabric is soft, stretchy and durable, and makes for perfect singlets, undies and gorgeous baby wear.
Bubble London will take place on 19th and 20th June, 2016, and we’ll be back to tell you all about the designers we loved, and the designers we really really loved.
