Brisbane Babyologists rejoice, the exciting Out of the Box Festival hits town in June!
The Out of the Box Festival is a Brisbane-only biennial event held at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) for children eight years and under. The festival is a week-long cultural and arts celebration and this year’s performances, workshops, activities and trails are world class.
Taking place from 8-14 June 2010, the calendar includes performances, workshops, a tea and music party and a very special and way-too-cool luminarium called Amococo (a walk through inflatable sculpture filled with vivid colour – see image above). Highlights for the performances include Mr McGee & The Biting Flea, Lemony Snicket’s The Composer is Dead, More Fun Than A Wii (a comedy from the List Operators For Kids), Pirates (a fantastic show with an acrobatic junior cast) and dancing Grug.
The workshops are hot property this year with some dates already sold out. Two of the most popular are the Sticks Workshop and the Flourpot Workshop. Sticks has children using bamboo sticks and flowers with floral artist Hiroaki Eba and teacher Jane Gado to create pyramids with balance and harmony. Flourpot takes place in QPAC’s restaurant with qualified chefs teaching kiddies how to make a muffin using the garden of edible plants and potted herbs on offer.
Don’t forget to check out the various free activities and trails for further entertainment and learning. Performances and workshops are all ticketed events with prices varying from $16 for the workshops to $18-$22 for the performances. The Amococo tickets cost $8.50 at the door. Be sure to book now as seats and places are selling fast! And of course have a great day out with the family!
