Some people can’t walk past a shoe shop without stopping in. I have friends that simply can’t resist a fossick in an op shop but for me, bookshops are my weakness.
Despite all sorts of information telling us that digital publications are taking over print, people still want hard copy books (in the same way that a night at the movies has a different appeal to hiring a DVD). My reading habits may not be typical – I have a Kindle (for my digital fix), I buy books online (when there is a particular title I’m after) and I love nothing better than browsing a bookstore (for all those books I didn’t know I needed until that moment!).
When it comes to online book shopping, Booko is your friend. Booko is essentially a book buying search engine that scours dozens of online bookstores, finds the price of any given title, calculates the shipping cost and then ranks all the online stores, from cheapest to most expensive. As an added bonus, prices from the international sites, such as Amazon, are converted into Australian dollars (see an example of a search below).
It was thanks to Booko that I discovered the magic ‘Book Depository Australia‘ deal (free shipping from the UK to Australia! Plus I love the slightly voyeuristic ‘Watch People Shop‘ feature at Book Depository). I have also found a host of Australian online booksellers that are well stocked with Australian authors and hard-to-find titles, such as The Nile and The Co-op.
So next time you are shopping for books online, start your search with Booko and you might just turn over a terrific deal.
