She looks the picture of perfection on the red carpet but Blake Lively has revealed she’s just like the rest of us – dishevelled, sleep-deprived and no match for the Instamums who make the whole mothering thing look easy.
We all have that motherly role model that we look up to before having kids. For Blake Lively, it was a woman by the name of Old Joy.
While Old Joy showcased her life as a mum, complete with quiet reading time, fresh pies baking in the oven and a spotless house, Blake has come forward and said what we all are thinking.
Blake, who confirmed in a talk show interview yesterday with Late Night host Seth Myers, that yes, she and hubby Ryan Reynolds are expecting baby number two, also admits that social media gave her a not-so-real idea of motherhood.
“There was this lady on Instagram that I loved to watch and her name was Old Joy. She just made having a baby look lovely. Everything was white and she always has a fresh blueberry pie that’s steaming and scones and clotted cream and she’s reading Old Man and the Sea and her little boy is rolly with bonnets and she’s knitting while he’s sleeping,” Blake says.
“It’s amazing and I thought ‘this is lovely’, and her toddler is like giving her reflexology massage.”
But Blake says things got real when her own daughter James arrived late in 2014.
“My kid is like playing with explosive devices – I don’t know where she’s found them – sticking them in our dog’s ear. She already knows how to drywall because she puts holes in the wall.
“I went from loving her (Old Joy) to wanting to kidnap her so that she won’t post any more torture for me,’ she says, of her one-time favourite Instamum.
“She’s like ‘oh they’re both sleeping at the same time. What do I do?’ What do you do? You high-five yourself until you’re just blue in the face.”
James will be around the 18 month mark when baby number two arrives, making her the “perfect babysitting age,” Blake jokes.
We cannot wait to hear the baby news and hopefully get a sneaky Instapeak into the Reynolds’ residence, holes in the wall and all.
