While a poster of a favourite storybook or TV character can add a sense of fun to your baby’s nursery, it can also limit your decor choices and it dates very quickly. A carefully considered art work, on the other hand, can set the mood and theme of a room as well as provide a colour palette in a much more original form. Nurseries and playrooms are the perfect place to let your inner designer loose and we’ve got a great place for you to start.

Mrs Mighetto is the business of Swedish design duo, Malin and Anna, who create watercolour artworks full of mystery, history and a good dose of fantasy. Their first collection, Superheroes, was launched in October, 2014, and sold out within the first two weeks.

‘Into the Woods’ is the name of Mrs Mighetto’s third and most recent collection and we are a little bit in love. There are four lovely forest characters in the series, Mr Ted and Miss Märta are both majestic owls, while Mr Eric and Miss Ester are the bestest of friends and guardians of the forest. Each member of the team has an enchanting story to accompany them which makes them feel like instant friends and helps you choose the best fit for your child’s room (if you can possibly limit it to just one).

The watercolour medium and beautiful soft grey tones that have been used in each of these prints are just divine. Measuring 50 x 70 cm, the Into the Forest collection will be sure to set a calming mood in any room but still maintain a punch of spunky personality. Pair your print with gorgeous textures rather than traditional baby colours for a warm and inviting, gender neutral nursery or playroom.

The super stylish Australian brand, Tiny People, stocks the Into the Woods collection from Mrs Mighetto for $80 each. If you live in Europe or New Zealand, check out these other retailers.

Kate Thompson

Just back from maternity leave, Kate Thompson is resigned to a house overrun by boys (3 kids, dog and husband). Existing in a phase she affectionately coins ‘monotonous chaos’, this stay-at-home-mum revels in moonlighting as a writer and feeling like a grown up every once in a while. A background in teaching and psychology, she entered parenthood confident she was up for the challenge, but now eats humble pie on a daily basis.
