You can never be too safe when it comes to little people and water, no matter how confident. While some children are happy to wear added buoyancy aids strapped to their arms or torso, others are not. Possibly the easiest way to get around the poolside plastic debate is to buy swimmers with inbuilt buoyancy!
With summer settling in just nicely it won’t be long before hitting the water for some splish-splashing fun and we’ve found two brands of bathers that fit the buoyancy bill perfectly – Little Togs and Cuddle Fish.
The Floatsuit from Little Togs (pictured top) is a fantastic option, with sizing available to fit children from 11 to 30 kilograms. Several colours and prints are on offer, my favourite is the navy and white Short John Floatsuit – very Parisian chic! Floatsuits are all priced $49.95 and offer a UPF 50+ protection.
Cuddle Fish has two styles available for little girls – Short Sleeved Buoyancy Suit available in snowflakes print and navy tulip print, and a Crossback Buoyancy Suit in snowflake, pictured below. Boys don’t miss out with two options to choose from, a short sleeved short leg style in navy or red stripe. All suits are UPF50+ and have removable floats. Sizing is Small (children weighing 12-15 kilograms) and Medium (15-20 kilograms) and these swimmers are all priced $49.95 each.
Of course, it goes without saying that buoyancy swim aids are no substitute for keeping a close eye on your children in the water. It’s a good rule to make sure you are never more than an arm’s reach away in the pool for children aged under five.
