Rarely does the average person start with a clean slate when furnishing a room – you usually have a few existing pieces to build your décor around. However, furnishing a nursery is different. With the arrival of your first baby also comes the need for new furniture of the kind you’ve never used before.
Some people hold back on decorating the nursery on the basis that needs change and pieces such as cradles, cots and change tables are soon obsolete. Many designers have now become savvy and are creating furniture for longevity. Pieces that bridge the baby to toddler gap, such as cots that turn into toddler beds and change tables that become drawers, appeal to customers who want to invest in furniture that will last more than a couple of years.
The BE range goes the distance… and then some. Cots turn into desks, drawers can be reconfigured in an instant and a cradle becomes a children’s table. All the pieces are designed in Spain and are finished in slick, modern white with splashes of colour (I like the yellow). The drawers are particularly clever given that you can expand storage capacity as required. Add or subtract drawers from your stack and create a bedside table, a change table or a tallboy. Inject some colour with aqua, taupe or chocolate facings. The collection also includes a cupboard. Although very futuristic, the cupboard has no hidden tricks!
The whole collection is available from Kids Love Design, who will ship internationally. The cot/desk is €596, the drawers with changetable fitting are €328, the cupboard is €642 and small drawers are €168.
