Babyology Exclusive – world premiere of the very groovy ‘Fish Sticks’ by Recess Monkey

Grab the scuba gear, Recess Monkey are making waves with their latest release and we have a very special debut for little music fans.

Last year we introduced you to Recess Monkey and their album, In Tents. It was a circus themed musical extravaganza and without question one of the freshest, most fun albums I heard all year.

Recess Monkey didn’t leave us wanting more for very long. About to hit the airwaves is their latest album, Deep Sea Diver, described as a “delicious bouillabaisse of aquatic adventures”.

We’re very excited to give you an exclusive sneak peek of Deep Sea Diver. Knowing how much we enjoyed In Tents, the guys that are Recess Monkey – Jack Forman, Drew Holloway and Korum Bischoff – decided Babyology would be a great place to debut their very latest video clip, Fish Sticks. So grab the kids, hand over the iPad and let them be the first of their kinder crew to catch this crazy, fun tune – it’s a little journey through the days of the week and styles of music with a rhythmic intensity that you simply can’t ignore.

Now I might be somewhat biased but Fish Sticks is my favourite track on Deep Sea Diver. There are a few close seconds though. Check out Deep End, a song that combines a Latin beat with pop vocals – it’s all about a kid’s first dip in the deep end at the swimming pool, including all sorts of reasons as to why being over your head might not be a good idea… Does he take the plunge?

Shrimp takes a look at what it means to be small (there are lots of advantages!), all sung to a hip-hop beat and the very clever Choral Reef is an exploration of music sung by coral – yes, coral singing choral. It’s brilliant.

As a map lover (even when I was little – the result of having a geography lecturer for a dad), the sweet song Compass Rose won me.

“My sister’s all about her maps,
And when she’d got one in her lap, or in her backpack,
It’s a fact that she’ll get us there and back,
My sister’s all about maps…”

Isn’t that just gorgeous?

Deep Sea Diver will be available on June 18, 2013 via iTunes and online retailers including CD Baby.
