There are nappies with cute Aussie animals, nappies with moisture wicking properties, but Thankyou’s are the first nappies with a social mission.
Thankyou is a social enterprise with a simple model: 100 per cent of its profits fund safe drinking water and sanitation around the world. This month Thankyou is releasing a new range of 14 baby products, including cloth and disposable nappies, baby wash, lotion, massage oil and nappy balm.
It started in 2008 as a response to a global water crisis. While we in Australia were spending a fortune on bottled water, 900 million people around the world didn’t have access to safe drinking water. It’s an imbalance that hit home for Thankyou’s young founders, and they began selling bottled water in an effort to help with the issue. Food and body products followed in 2013, and eight years after its inception, the company has moved into baby products.
In addition to having a noble social mission, Thankyou understands modern, clean design. The nappy range follows the monochromatic trend in children’s fashion with black patterns like spots and triangles on white.
The size names are sure to give you pause at the shops. Little Dreamers are for newborns, Go Getters are for crawlers and Trailblazers are for walkers. The nappies have aloe vera and Vitamin E to soothe baby’s delicate skin, and the Thankyou baby care range is free from nasty chemicals like parabens.
As part of the launch, Thankyou has also acquired the online magazine Wonderful Mama. Like the main business, 100 per cent of Wonderful Mama’s profits go towards funding projects, in this case child and maternal health programs around the world.
Since 2008, Thankyou has given $4.7 million to projects around the world, and the baby range will help this number grow. Thankyou nappies are available at Coles, and baby body care products at Woolworths, Priceline and Baby Bunting. Cloth nappies and selected products will be available for pre-order on Thankyou’s website.
