Capes are our latest winter wardrobe obsession, and these ones have nothing to do with superheroes. With a chic popped collar, structured shoulders and graceful drape, Melbourne’s Allora Capes are our current favourites.
Allora Capes are gorgeous wool and cashmere pieces made and designed in Melbourne. Tailored with a flattering structure, these capes define the shoulder, frame the face with a big stand collar and nip in at the waist thanks to the handy arm slits. They’re double breasted, reminiscent of a traditional pea coat, but they’re so much more stylish.
For our moody Australian winter weather that never seems to know if it wants to be blustery or blistering, these capes ($380 – $425) make the perfect layering piece. You can do a dressed up look with a long sleeved silk blouse and bangles, or pop your cape over a buttoned up denim jacket, worn with jeans and your trusty Converse for a morning at the park.
The Allora Capes come in a basic colour palette of black, camel or pale grey, which means they go with the wildest patterns, the brightest colours, or if you’re in an artistic kind of mood, they go with all black too.
For a mama and mini me look, Allora will soon release the Little Red Riding Hood cape ($110). It’s made from cherry red wool and lined in patterned silk. Three copper fox buttons close the cape, and the generous hood keeps pigtails snug and out of the wind.
Allora Capes are available online and shipping in Australia is free.
