Airline employee restores mum and toddler’s faith in humanity … with bubbles

All parents will know the edge-of-your-seat stress of flying with little ones. Not only does it require an epic dose of logistical nouse, pre-flight, there’s the feeling of being captive to fate once on board the plane. Luckily for this mum, the airline had her back when things went pear-shaped.

Under pressure

Flying means parents and kids have to contend with over-stimulation, air-pressure concerns, unfamiliar surrounds and being cooped up, and there’s often the added stress of being judged by other passengers – or even the staff on board.

Not on this day, though. Uh-uh. Nope.

On this day, on this particular flight – by US airline Southwest – the plane was staffed by gentle, sparkly angel-types, on the lookout for stressed out families! #Phew

“Very loud crying”

In a story published on the Love What Matters Facebook page, Carrie Jaboor recounted a flight attendant’s kind approach to a mum who was juggling two distressed children.

“My heart… There was a mother and her 2 young girls in front of me on the plane and the baby suddenly had a very loud crying fit that wouldn’t stop,” Carrie explained.

“This Southwest employee asked the mother to come to the back of the plane with him.”

The flight attendant had a very good reason for asking this family to leave their seats.

“I looked back and saw him blowing bubbles for the little girl until she stopped crying. He was also giving tissues to the mother and consoling her, as she was crying too.” Carrie revealed.

“There are some seriously kind people in this world,” she said.

Frown upside-down

Southwest Airlines were delighted by their employee’s actions, but also unsurprised.

They shared the post on their own Facebook page, noting that “sometimes all it takes is a few bubbles to turn a frown upside down.”

The airline said the people on board make their airline super special.

“We’re proud to have employees who are happy, funny, honest, thoughtful, kind, caring, innovative, and courageous,” Southwest’s spokesman said.

Kindness is catching

This wasn’t the only “kindness on a plane” story recounted on Facebook this week. Carrie’s story sparked an avalanche of others as parents shared their own stories of these “heroes of the sky”.

“I was once on an Emirates flight and there was a young baby crying constantly and we were going Dubai-NYC!! A young male flight attendant did the same!! Eventually at some point during the flight while everyone was asleep, I went to the bathroom and found the attendant walking around with the baby at the back where they normally rest in-between inflight service!!! The Mum was asleep on the second row close to the bathrooms,” one woman shared.

“I had to take my one year old with me from Pittsburgh to Chicago. My dad had unexpectedly passed away the night before. I was pretty much in shock. My daughter started crying and I was falling apart. The flight attendant pretty much held her the whole time. Never forgot her kindness,” another mum wrote.

“SWA did the same for me when my daughter was a baby. The attendants saw I was clearly flustered during the flight & my daughter would not settle. She came to me, asked if she could hold my daughter, and walked up & down the plane with her in hand, while doing her job, helping others. It gave me a much needed break, and calmed my daughter,” one grateful mum said.

Here’s hoping these acts of kindness toward stressed-out families inspire many, many more.
