At age five, Mozart was already playing violin, piano, and composing music. Our 21st century prodigies-in-the-making might not be quite as impressive, but with ABC’s My First Classical Album CDs they can get inspired by the masters.
The first three albums from ABC’s classical series introduce kids to classical music, piano, and to Mozart. The Mozart album includes some of his most well-known pieces: Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, famous piano concertos, and arias from The Magic Flute and The Marriage of Figaro.
My First Classical Album has pieces from the Nutcracker, Rossini’s William Tell Overture, and Vivaldi’s Gloria. There’s also a piano album with Chopin, Beethoven, Mozart and more recent composers like Joplin – that’s the father of ragtime, Scott Joplin, not Janis. Even if you don’t recognise the names of the pieces or their composers, we bet you’ll know the music.
ABC classical music albums are a wonderful introduction to what my eldest calls “relaxing music”. Studies show that listening to classical music from childhood helps to increase concentration and self discipline, and encourages sharp minds and good mental health. Even without these benefits, the music is beautiful, and indeed relaxing.
The first three classical music albums are available in the ABC Shop. CDs introducing kids to Beethoven, Bach, violin and ballet will be released over the winter.
