A little pea for vegetable fans

My daughter is really giving that ‘don’t like vegetables’ phase a decent go. I know it will pass but in the meantime I can’t help being a mother and persist in coaxing her toward a little bit of broccoli or trying to tempt her with some beans.

I have also introduced her to Little Pea, by Amy Krouse Rosenthal and Jen Corace. Little Pea is an ordinary pea and lives an ordinary life except for one thing – Little Pea doesn’t like sweets and good little peas are expected to eat their sweets or there will be no vegetables for dessert!

The story turns the tables on the usual mealtime battle which kids are sure to find funny. Parents will appreciate the very sweet illustrations which are humorous as well.

By the same authors is the very funny Little Oink, a story about a neat little pig who hates mess. He vows that when he grows up, he’s going to let his kids tidy up their rooms as much as they like!

Other good picks for kids who aren’t huge vegetable fans include I Will Never Not Ever Eat a Tomato by Lauren Child and Peas! by Andy Cullen – a story perfectly pitched for preschoolers.

Little Pea by Amy Krouse Rosenthal is available at Fishpond for $14.97.

Katrina studied planning and design, did the hard yards working in a big office building and then traded it all in for a relaxing (!) life at home with four children. She now fills her time with writing, completing a degree in genetics and taxiing her children around Melbourne to their various sporting commitments (not necessarily in that order).
