Planning a trip with the kids next year? Lonely Planet has just published their guide to the Best in Travel 2018 featuring the best holiday destinations for families looking for a bit of culture – and Brisbane makes the list! Here are their top ten trips to inspire you to get packing.

Holidays with kids don’t always have to involve a resort pool, caravan park or kid’s club. Exposing young children to different cultures and people can really broaden their education and understanding of different societies – and you might learn a thing or two as well!

Here are Lonely Planet’s top 10 culture-rich travel destinations for 2018 that everyone in the family can enjoy.

10. Kyoto, Japan

Lucky last is Kyoto, the perfect trip to introduce children to Japanese culture with plenty of fun distractions. Visit traditional shrines with space to run around and observe women in traditional Japanese kimonos, count carp or explore bamboo forests at historic temples, see the beautiful cherry blossom at the botanic gardens, or visit the 400-year-old Nishiki markets for a squiz at some unique local delicacies (the mall being nearby though for more familiar eats). For more holiday ideas and trends, Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2018 is available now in paperback for $24.99.
