Are you starting to burn out? It may only be March but if the demands of this year are already starting to take its toll, then we have the perfect suggestion for you to recharge, relax and return to reality feeling better than ever – Golden Door Elysia.
I was fortunate enough to escape the chaos of my household for a wellness retreat at the Golden Door Elysia Health Retreat and Spa. After three days of being pampered at the spa, consulting with wellness experts, participating in the various programs and indulging in the five star food, I highly recommend a visit. I came back feeling like a new person and I predict you will too.
Golden Door Elysia is a secluded and luxurious holistic wellness center, located in the Hunter Valley of New South Wales. The company is fuelled on helping guests find the perfect balance of mind, body and spirit to achieve lifelong wellness and the staff are completely dedicated to helping every guest realize this goal.
Golden Door Elysia is the perfect place to take a few days away from the kids, to recharge your body, to rejuvenate your mind, and to release your daily stresses. Take advantage of their current specials to take time out for yourself, whether for Mother’s Day, an anniversary or as an Easter break. I can’t wait to go back. The next time I may even let my husband come.
My day at the Golden Door Elysia began with an early morning Tai Chi Qi Gong class, conducted with sensational 360 degree views, on the top of Medication Hill. As we went through the movements with our instructor, we were treated to the sun rising over the mountains. It is truly one of the most revitalizing ways to start your day.
After Tai Chi I moved over to the heated pool for their Deep Water Running program followed by a buffet breakfast. One thing I really enjoyed about meal time was that we shared each meal with other guests and had a chance to actually sit down and appreciate the food. The menu is free of red meat, alcohol, caffeine, sugar and saturated fats and designed to help us understand more about sensible portions and well-spaced meal times. My favourite meal had to be the ocean trout spring roll with ginger and coriander. All recipes are online so you can try them at home as well.
The morning concluded with a stretch class and a seminar about helping to incorporate positive lifestyle changes into our daily routines. This seminar offered plenty of useful tips on bringing this sense balance home with me, which I have already started to do and have noticed a difference.
The pace picks up in the afternoon. I did Zumba one day and a spin class the next, following both with a sumptuous lunch. There were plenty of afternoon programs on offer, including yoga, swimming, tennis, basketball, guided walking tours and spa treatments but I chose to lounge around the pool and take a nap in the villa. I found it quite easy to relax at Golden Door, especially without the sounds of my girls running around the house. I didn’t realise how much this down time was needed. The evening brought another luxurious meal followed by an evening activity and an early night in.
It wasn’t all exercise, there was plenty of pampering too. I managed to squeeze in a facial, a Vichy Power Exfoliation and Watsu massage – Golden Door Elysia’s Signature Treatment at the spa. I loved the Watsu experience which is like a combination of yoga and massage in a heated pool. Absolutely divine! There were several other treatments available that I would have loved to try including the Kahuna Hawaiian Lomi Lomi massage and Chakra Awakening & Rebalancing. Next time…
I was also lucky enough to have a one-on-one session in the wellness center with a meditation instructor. As mentioned earlier, gaining access to this knowledge is so fundamental to managing every day stress, especially as most of us don’t get to escape reality every weekend.
As the day ended it was wonderful to curl up in my private villa and watch the sun set from my balcony. The spectacular views left me feeling at peace for the first time since Christmas break.
Golden Door currently have several specials, ranging from two nights to one week, giving you plenty of time to relax and explore this hidden gem.
