What’s better than opening a new box of Lego? Exploring a whole land of Lego, that’s what! Legoland is coming to Australia – think Lego rides, Lego play areas, even a cinema. The first of its kind in the southern hemisphere, the Legoland Discovery Centre is set to be created at Melbourne retail giant, Chadstone.
Before you run off to tell the kids, a word of warning, Australia’s first Legoland won’t open until mid-2017. But the details are far too juicy to keep under wraps. The Sydney Morning Herald reports Legoland will be spread over a gargantuan 2800 square metres at the shopping centre in Melbourne’s east, and will be aimed at children aged three to 10, with facilities for parties alongside play areas, Lego-themed rides, a cinema and a Miniland that will showcase Melbourne.
While it may be the first of its kind in the southern part of the globe, Lego Discovery Centres are operated by the UK’s Merlin Entertainment in North America (that’s the Legoland Discovery Centre Chicago pictured above), Europe and Japan. Melbourne’s facility is an agreement between Federation Centres and Merlin.
We can’t wait, but of course we’ll have to, with construction – brick by brick, no doubt – set to begin next year.
